Um... WHAT?!

The kid I'm testing this week is on the English as a Second Language list. That's why he is getting one-on-one testing with me - you know in case he doesn't know a word or doesn't know how to pronounce something.

I just found out that English is the ONLY language he speaks!!! He doesn't even speak Spanish and for some reason the central office thinks he does!!

I recently started following your blog. I'm a teacher too (except I teach Spanish, though I'm thinking about getting my Masters in ESL. But that's besides the point. :) )

How the hell did this kid get on the ELL list?! We don't have a huge (if any) population of ELL where I work but I'm sure there has to be some having English as your SECOND language!

I'm sorry sweetie. One more day! You can do it! Good luck!

I have NO idea! He lives with his grandmother who does not speak English and his brother and sister speak Spanish. When he needs to communicate with her they translate for them.

It's bizarre. Apparently the people at our school knew this information too but the central office had him on the Special Ed list classified as ELL!

I just found your blog and I assume that you have struggled with infertility? My husband and I have been trying for about a year with no such luck.

I see that you are pregnant - congratulations! That must be an amazing feeling!

This is sad! Perhaps they put him there because of his family not speaking the language. They probably thought he didn't either. This is too crazy. Does he struggle with the language then is that how he ended up as a 2nd language student? What's the next step?
